Reshaping cardiometabolic health: an integrated strategy for a healthier Europe

At his confirmation hearing, EU Commissioner-designate for Health and Animal Welfare Oliver Varhelyi pledged to combat cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and diabetes through a comprehensive EU approach, inspired by Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. Recent Council discussions emphasized avoiding isolated disease-specific actions in favor of integrated strategies for managing cardiometabolic conditions.

The EU is now at a critical juncture in addressing these public health challenges, with obesity, in particular, set to reach epidemic proportions. This event will explore the EU’s preparedness to tackle this public health crisis and discuss strategies to enhance early diagnosis and effective treatment, as well as solutions through collaborative, cross-disease approaches to improve metabolic health across the bloc.
