Europe is facing an escalating challenge from Cardio-Renal-Metabolic (CRM) diseases. Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of mortality among individuals living with chronic kidney disease, Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH), and obesity. These conditions are deeply interconnected, as the heart, kidneys, liver, and metabolic systems are physiologically linked; dysfunction in one organ significantly increases the risk of complications in others. This interconnected nature accelerates disease progression, leading to higher rates of hospitalizations and mortality. Yet, despite the critical importance of addressing these links, the interconnectedness of CRM diseases remains under-recognized across the EU.
The recent Council Conclusions on Cardiovascular Health (December 2024) underscored the urgent need for targeted CRM prevention strategies. Building on this momentum, the European Commission has announced an EU Cardiovascular Health Action Plan, while the European Parliament has proposed an Own-Initiative Report on Cardiovascular Health.
Join us to discuss with EU policymakers, healthcare experts, and patient organisation representatives how to action solutions for enhanced prevention and integrated care. Together, we can identify opportunities to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease and improve health outcomes across Europe.
