Path to Smoke-Free: EU case for innovation

As the EU works toward its goal of becoming smoke-free by 2040, innovation in reducing the health impact of smoking has become more critical than ever.

While progress remains slow, with smoking rates declined by just 1% since 20201, Innovative Nicotine Products (INPs), are showing promising results across several member states. Countries like Sweden, Czechia, and Greece are leading the way by adopting diverse strategies that prioritise adult smokers seeking safer alternatives.

The event will explore how innovation can support public health, driving scientific progress, and, through evidence-based regulation and consumer-driven solutions, help accelerate EU’s journey to a smoke-free future.
