As part of its commitments to the UN SDGs, Europe pledged to end HIV transmission by 2030. However, according to the latest data, notably from the ECDC, the EU27 is currently not on track to meet this goal under existing levels of prevention, testing, and early diagnosis. Without a significant scale-up in interventions, the EU risks a substantial number of avoidable new infections by 2030, with long-term consequences for health systems, public expenditure, and societal burden.
New data from the Aquarius Population Health modelling report, commissioned by Gilead Sciences, highlights both the scale of the remaining prevention gap across Member States and the clear benefits of earlier, more coordinated investment.
Taking place less than five years before the 2030 SDG 3.3 deadline, this high-level European Parliament breakfast will bring together policymakers and stakeholders to explore how the EU can strengthen its HIV prevention response, accelerate progress, secure sustained funding and build political momentum for action at EU and national level.
